Hi Friend,

Today is the most important Election Day of our lives. Our democracy and our future are at stake.  So if you haven’t voted yet, please make your voice heard.

You have plenty of options, including voting safely in person, delivering your mail-in ballot to a polling place or to an official county ballot bin, or getting it in the mail and postmarked with today’s date before 8 pm.

We know that many of our members are feeling overwhelmed these days, voting for these Clean Water Candidates is something that will help all of us.

Vote for Biden/Harris:  After 4 years of unprecedented environmental rollbacks, Vice President Biden and Senator Harris’ commitment to addressing climate change and social justice will be critical. We cannot afford another 4 years of the Trump Administration.

Rebecca Bauer-Kahan for State Assembly District 16 (parts of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties): Serving on the Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials during her first term, Assemblymember Bauer-Kahan has demonstrated a commitment to protecting the environment and promoting environmental justice for all Californians.  She also co-authored CWA’s bill, SB 1044, banning toxic PFAS firefighting foam, which helped the bill through its 2nd House.  Bauer-Kahan will be the leader we need in the coming years to address climate change and meet our future water needs.

Susan Eggman for State Senate District 5 (Stockton):  Susan Eggman emerged as a true leader during her tenure in the State Assembly, and we need her continued leadership in the Senate.  Her environmental priorities include addressing the serious air quality problems in the district, ensuring that local communities attract green job opportunities from the state’s efforts to combat climate change, protecting local water supplies and quality, and opposing the Delta Tunnels which put both at risk.

Jose Gurrola for Mayor of Arvin (Kern Co.):  Who says you can’t take on Big Oil and win?  Mayor Gurrola did just that, ensuring buffer zones between oil drilling and his local community to protect public health.  And he’ll continue this leadership to attract green jobs to his economically disadvantaged community and ensure that his city has access to safe drinking water.

Chris Bubser for Congress, District 8 (Mono, Inyo and parts of San Bernandino Counties): Chris Bubser is facing off against a candidate whose poor Assembly voting record on the environment won him an endorsement by Donald Trump. Ms. Bubser, on the other hand, will be an environmental champion and has vowed to prioritize climate change, stopping pollution, and advancing clean energy jobs in her district. We need her in Congress.

Vote Yes for Proposition 16: Clean Water Action endorses Proposition 16 because, while it would not permit quotas, it would allow race, gender and ethnicity to be included as a consideration in state and local hiring, contracting and in granting access to higher education opportunities. Events of this year have demonstrated that racism and discrimination are a continuing reality in our society.  Proposition 16 is a step toward combating them and allowing for more equitable opportunities for our diverse communities.
