It’s time to hold brands, manufacturers, and the plastics industry accountable for their role in the plastic pollution crisis! Please urge your representatives in the U.S. Congress to reintroduce the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act
This bill, introduced by Senator Tom Udall (D-NM) and Representative Alan Lowenthal (D-CA) last year, would hold the plastic industry and other companies responsible for the waste they produce - also known as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
Instead of emphasizing consumer choices, littering, or clean-ups, the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act will help the supply side of the economy shift toward waste reduction and reuse and create a more systemic solution to plastic pollution. It will establish minimum recycled content requirements for packaging and will create a national beverage container refund program. It will also reduce and ban some common single-use disposable plastics.
Your help is needed to generate support for this critical legislation! Please contact your representatives and urge them to reintroduce the Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act.
