AB 2247 is a common sense bill that simply requires manufacturers importing or selling any product containing intentionally added PFAS to report it on a publicly accessible data base. This will allow state decision makers and water agencies to decide in when we can stop using the chemicals, or how we can stop them from entering our water when their use is essential for public health and safety (such as in medical products). It will also allow businesses to figure out where in their supply chains PFAS are coming from and find better solutions. PFAS are linked to serious health problems, persist in our water and environment, and PFAS manufacturing is poisoning communities next to the factories. Pollution prevention will be a key strategy for managing PFAS. To do so we need to know how much PFAS are imported into California, how they are used, and where they are used.
The chemical industry is fighting to ensure AB 2247 dies before it becomes law. The bill is in the State Senate and we need every Senator to hear that we need to know where these toxic chemicals are. Tell them to vote aye on AB 2247!
Update 8-30-22 - AB 2247 is moving through the legislature. We now need Governor Newsom's support. Send a message today and ask him to sign PFAS disclosure into law.
