The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed rules to cut climate & toxic air pollution from oil and gas. Send in your comment to strengthen and finalize key protections.
Oil and gas production, processing, and transmission pollutes our climate, air, water and communities - we must transition off fossil fuels completely! Until that vision of a fossil fuel free economy is realized, we must do everything we can to limit the harm.
Methane is 86 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide in the short term and has been identified as a key driver of climate change. Methane emissions also harm the health and safety of frontline communities, responsible for toxic co-pollutants and causing respiratory and other illnesses. While some states have begun to limit these emissions, it’s past time for a national methane standard.
EPA’s new proposal is a step in the right direction - reining in emissions from both new and existing oil and gas infrastructure, like wells, processing facilities and transmission lines. But we need an even stronger rule that ensures frequent inspections on all oil and gas infrastructure including low producing and leaky wells, and that prohibits flaring of gas at oil wells,
There is no time to waste. Each year, the oil and gas industry releases 16 million metric tons of methane into the atmosphere, and without swift federal action, methane pollution from the industry will continue to skyrocket.
We need you to let EPA know that they must cut methane from oil and gas now.
Tell EPA to strengthen and finalize new rules on methane from oil and gas today!
