Polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are chemicals that are toxic at very low levels, causing testicular and kidney cancer, high cholesterol, colitis, and immunosuppression, including reduced response to vaccines.
The more we look, the more we find PFAS—in products, air, drinking water, sludge, surface water, food, plants and in…. US! Ninety seven percent of Americans tested have PFAS in their blood.
PFAS are among the most persistent chemicals ever created. They never fully break down, and they bio-accumulate. That means the more we use PFAS, the more we contaminate our bodies and the water and air around us, increasing our risk for health problems none of us want.
States across the country have already acted to ban PFAS in various consumer products. The European Union in October 2020 announced a strategy to ban all PFAS uses except those that are absolutely essential for health and safety.
Massachusetts needs to do the same! Products can and are made safely without toxic PFAS.
Take Action! Ask your legislator to cosponsor four bills to help our state turn off the tap and stop the flow of toxic PFAS into our communities.
