At the end of last session, Governor Charlie Baker vetoed the Next-Generation Roadmap Climate Bill (S.2995) despite massive support from the public eager for the climate and environmental justice advances the bill promised.
Baker said at the time that he supported much of the bill but had no time to propose amendments in a few key areas. This came after real estate interests and other corporate lobbyists mounted a last ditch effort to oppose policies such as improved building codes that reduce carbon pollution and energy use. The Massachusetts House and Senate immediately sent the bill back to Gov. Baker's desk when the new session started, and Governor Baker sent the bill back with amendments. Some of which would weaken the bill.
We need the strongest climate legislation possible NOW if we're going to avoid the worst effects of climate change. We're looking to our legislators to stand up for climate justice and reject any amendments that weaken the bill, while accepting amendments that would create more protection for EJ communities.
Take action: Urge your legislator to bring the Next Generation Climate Bill to a floor vote.
