Maryland is poised to be the first state in the country to buy in big on offshore wind: if the federal government approves two offshore wind farms that Maryland's Public Service Commission approved last year, they'll be creating thousands of jobs and powering 500,000 homes in a few short years. But to bring that clean, just energy future to Maryland, we'll need to fight for federal permits this fall.
Send a message to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to demand that they approve Maryland's offshore wind farms without unnecessary and harmful restrictions that could make the projects impossible to complete. Together, we can fight climate change at the local level and make Maryland a leader in green energy.
Dear Office of Renewable Energy, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management:
I support both proposed offshore wind farms in Maryland at their current distance from shore. In 2017, Maryland took a huge step toward becoming the East Coast hub for offshore wind. Our state’s Public Service Commission approved applications for two large wind farms off our coast, promising thousands of jobs and enough energy to power over 500,000 homes.
Offshore wind will pave the path for Maryland to lead the nation toward a clean energy economy that combats climate change, improves public health, and creates family-sustaining jobs in manufacturing industries lost to de-industrialization. Requiring turbines to be built any further from the shore is unnecessary and would make it impossible to bring this clean energy future to Maryland.
Please stand with Marylanders and approve the two offshore wind farms.
