Join us at Ann Arbor's REI Store to challenge the chain to become a leader in removing PFAS from their outdoor gear! Clean Water Action is joining Toxic Free Future's Mind the Store Campaign and Ecology Center for a national “week of action” to call on REI to ban PFAS in the products it sells. Despite thousands of messages and actions taken by Clean Water Action members and thousands more from other organizations in the Safer States alliance, REI has not taken meaningful action on PFAS, so we need to amp up the public pressure!
Many popular outdoor brands use PFAS to waterproof their products—from jackets to boots. The production, use, and disposal of these products pollute people and the planet. Buying a rain jacket from REI shouldn't pollute someone's drinking water.
As a company committed to sustainability and one of the top outdoor retailers, REI is the perfect company to lead the industry away from these toxic chemicals. If enough of us come together, we can convince REI CEO Eric Artz to be a leader and only sell products without these toxic chemicals!
This demonstration will happen concurrently with the Mind the Store campaign and protests across the country. We will be delivering a letter to the store manager, have flyers to pass out to REI customers going into the store, and have a petition printed for customers to sign. Bring your own sign and join us on September
