Last year, dangerous emissions of trichloroethylene (TCE) leaked from Water Gremlin in White Bear Lake, and it’s clear that we need to finally end the use of TCE in Minnesota.
We’ve known about the harmful effects of TCE for a long time -- exposure can result in effects to the immune and reproductive systems, liver, kidneys, central nervous system, may affect fetal development during pregnancy, and can cause cancer.
Despite public support on both sides of the aisle, our state legislature missed the opportunity in 2019 to pass a ban on TCE for manufacturing uses, the very same uses that resulted in the contamination in communities near Water Gremlin.
Preventing future contamination from TCE should be among the first priorities the legislature tackles this year. Tell your legislators to support a ban on TCE!
