40% of the precious metals needed to implement Minnesota's 100% clean energy bill that passed last session are just sitting in landfills, and 70% of lead contamination in landfills come from e-waste. With 98 out of 101 of our landfills are leaching into the groundwater, there is a direct relationship between e-waste and contaminated water.
We have a solution: SF3940 (Kupec)/HF3566 (Hollins), which addresses e-waste. This bill would:
- Create a comprehensive definition of electronic waste to enable 100% collection.
- Remove financial barriers for Minnesotans by holding manufacturers and retailers responsible.
- Reimburse collection sites for the e-waste that is recycled.
Clean Water Action is working with Recycling Electronics for Climate Action and the Zero Waste Coalition on this necessary legislation to tackle waste while protecting clean water!
And it makes financial sense, too: Minnesota’s annual electronic waste stream contains $3 billion dollars worth of precious metals. By recycling our e-waste, 1700 Minnesota jobs will be created!
This bill is good for Minnesota’s water and Minnesota’s future. Tell your Senator to vote YES on SF3940!
We just need a few pieces of information:
