Last week, the Minnesota Senate announced via letter that it did not intend to pass an Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund (Trust Fund) bill this year. The Trust Fund was approved by voters and established “for the public purpose of protection, conservation, preservation, and enhancement of the state's air, water, land, fish, wildlife, and other natural resources."
Each year the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR), a panel of scientists, legislators and residents review hundreds of conservation project applications and make recommendations to the legislature for appropriating the constitutionally dedicated Trust Fund dollars. We need the Senate to pass the bill in order to fund projects that create jobs and protect our environment and water, like:
