Petition to NJ Department of Environmental Protection:
We, Clean Water Action and Sustainable Jersey City, urgently bring to your attention a critical environmental issue impacting our community. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has issued a Notice of Public Hearing for the renewal of the Title V Operating Permit for Diversified Global Group (DG3), located at 100 Burma Rd, Jersey City, NJ 07305.
DG3 has been identified as a significant source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), posing severe threats to air quality and public health.
As co-sponsors of this petition, we advocate for immediate action to address the environmental hazards posed by DG3. The facility releases 1.9 tons of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs), and specifically Ethylene Glycol, a substance known for its detrimental impact on the central nervous system, heart, kidney, and potential fatality. DG3 consistently exceeds emissions limits, which has the ability to increase the risks associated with respiratory issues, irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, and increasing the risk of diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, asthma, breast cancer, pancreatic cancer, and liver cancer.
As co-sponsors, we demand immediate action. Enforce strict emissions controls, investigate DG3's practices, and address their pollution legacy with the NJDEP. This is crucial for our BIPOC, low-income, and language-isolated residents, over 90,000 living twice below the poverty line.
We urge the DEP and DG3 to prioritize community health by enforcing controls and conducting a thorough investigation. Your signature supports our demand for a healthier future, protecting our community from air pollution's harmful effects!
We urge the DEP and DG3 to listen to our concerns and respond in a manner that prioritizes community health.
By signing this petition, you support our demand for emissions controls on DG3 and a comprehensive investigation into their practices. Let us unite to protect our community from the harmful effects of air pollution and ensure a healthier future for all.
