The proposed Mid-County Highway Extended (M83) is the worst example of outmoded transportation planning; it is a relic disconnected from modern day climate change awareness.
Yet, proposed M83 Highway is still a part of Montgomery County's Master Plan of Highways and Transitways. Montgomery County must invest in more and better transit and other transportation alternatives: complete the Bus Rapid Transit Project, expand Ride-On Bus services, and invest in problematic intersections along existing state and county roads. Montgomery County Council has adopted policies to ensure high quality of life for all its residents; which includes clean air, clean water and intact healthy ecosystems in the County's Climate Resilience Forests and Public Parklands.
That means Montgomery County Council must cancel the M83 Highway, and to remove it from the Master Plan of Highways and Transitways.
Another highway cutting through parkland, forests, and important streams is not a solution and is contrary to the county's climate and sustainability goals.
Remove M83 from the plans now and finally put this issue to bed.
