Artwork inspired by offshore wind submitted by artists to the "Wonders of the Wind" art show.
Three years ago, Maryland's Public Service Commission affirmed what people across Maryland had been demanding for years: that it's time to boldly move forward on offshore wind and make our state a leader in this growing new industry. The PSC approved two offshore wind farms, which would create thousands of jobs on the Eastern Shore and in Baltimore, where assembly operations would be built on the former site of Bethlehem Steel in Sparrow's Point.
But since 2017, federal approvals for these projects have not moved forward within the Trump Administration - and meanwhile, offshore wind technology has improved. A few months ago, the companies building Maryland's offshore wind farms updated their plans with taller, more powerful wind turbines, which for one of these windfarms will double the power produced by each turbine. This means the Public Service Commission is holding another hearing about these plans - and they need to hear from you to make sure Maryland moves forward with the best offshore wind technology available!
