Please contact Philadelphia City Council and urge them to support an amendment that would add a fee on all single-use bags. This amendment will encourage greater use of reusable bags by shoppers and assure the success of Philadelphia’s Plastic Bag Ban.
Experiences across the country, like in Chicago have demonstrated that when fees are combined with bans they can result in achieving a 50 percent reduction of all single-use bags within six months and up to 80 percent after the first year. In the absence of a fee, the cost of free single-use alternatives is projected to raise the costs of consumer goods by $80 to $100 million which imposes a disproportionate impact on the City’s underserved residents.
Take Action! Email your Philadelphia City Councilor today and urge them to support this amendment.
