The Environmental Protection Agency ruled recently that US Steel’s Clairton Coke Works might be violating clean-air laws under its current operating permit due to inadequate emission testing and compliance schedules. As a result, the Allegheny County Health Department was directed to revise the plant’s Title V permit. That revised permit is now out for public comment and will serve as a blueprint that dictates how one of the most significant industrial facilities in our area interacts with our environment and the health of our communities.
