The 1987 landmark report “Toxic Waste and Race in the United States” documented the siting of toxic facilities in black and brown communities and was the first to term this insidious form of racism as “Environmental Justice”: the disproportionate exposure of communities of color and the poor to life threatening pollution. Today, there are 1,000 census districts identified as Environmental Justice communities in Pennsylvania.
Join us for simultaneous events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on Tuesday, February 15th at 6:30 PM. These gatherings will bring together, mobilize and empower concerned residents to gain a greater perspective on local Environmental Justice crises, who's involved and what actions are being taken. These events will also jointly launch a statewide effort to adopt legislation currently in the General Assembly to ensure that all Pennsylvanians are meaningfully involved in decisions to secure healthy communities that are unburdened by pollution and toxic facilities. Register below!
