in Philadelphia, we are recognizing the Buxmont Coalition for Safer Water with our Florence Neilson Environmental Leadership Award for their work to address PFAS contamination of drinking water in Bucks and Montgomery County communities and Philly Thrive who was at the forefront of the effort to improve air quality and demand a just transition of the oil refinery- then owned by Philadelphia Energy Solution with our Jerry Balter Environmental Justice Award.
In Pittsburgh, we’re presenting our Dewey Award for environmental leadership to the Larimer Consensus Group for their efforts to address stormwater overflow through building resilience to flooding, reducing runoff, strengthening social cohesion, and advancing environmental literacy as well as Dr. John Stolz with the Center for Environmental Research and Education at Duquesne University for his ongoing research and findings that draw attention to the impact fracking has had on drinking water sources and waterways.
This event helps support our efforts to improve democracy, develop strong grassroots leadership, and bring together diverse communities to address lead hazards, plastics pollution from single use bags and PFAS contamination of drinking water in the Philadelphia region as well as sewage overflow issues, air pollution from industrial operations and ensuring access to safe, affordable, publicly controlled drinking water in the Pittsburgh region.
Thank you in advance for your support - we look forward to seeing you there!
