Clean Water Action

Friend,

Imagine the government wanted to build a new highway right through your neighborhood. Or put a trash incinerator, which will pollute your water and air, near your neighborhood school. Or allow an oil company to pave over streams and fill-in wetlands so it can build a pipeline near your community.

Now imagine you had no way to express your opposition.

That’s exactly what could happen if the Trump administration finalizes its proposal to gut the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Take action right now -- don’t let the White House take your voice away.

NEPA is one of our most fundamental environmental laws. It’s the law that requires environmental reviews for big federal projects like highways, dams, pipelines, fossil fuel terminals, and more. NEPA also gives you a voice. Communities, experts, and non-profit organizations can ask for environmental reviews, comments on proposals, and propose safer, less impactful options. It’s a vital tool that has protected communities from risky or poorly planned projects for decades.

Trump’s White House wants to make it harder for communities to have their voice heard. We can’t let that happen -- and you can help. Send a message to the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality today.

The proposal would undermine NEPA in a lot of ways. The worst aspects are:

  • It would exclude climate change impacts from the NEPA review process -- making it harder to evaluate how new fossil fuel infrastructure could exacerbate the climate crisis;
  • It imposes impractical time limits for environmental impact statements and assessments;
  • It allows corporations to conduct their own environmental reviews;
  • It restricts and marginalizes public comment on environmental reviews.

This proposal must be stopped! Send a message to the White House today.

Protect Your Voice!

The National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) is our nation’s foundational environmental law that requires the federal government to consider the environmental impacts of projects. The Trump administration has proposed changes that would dramatically weaken NEPA, making it harder for communities to speak out against risky or poorly planned projects. This proposal would be bad for our water, climate, and public participation. It limits scrutiny of the environmental impacts of major projects, including fossil fuel development, highways, dams and more.
