NEPA is one of our most fundamental environmental laws. It’s the law that requires environmental reviews for big federal projects like highways, dams, pipelines, fossil fuel terminals, and more. The proposal would undermine NEPA in a lot of ways. The worst aspects are:

• It would exclude climate change impacts from the NEPA review process -- making it harder to evaluate how new fossil fuel infrastructure could exacerbate the climate crisis;
• It imposes impractical time limits for environmental impact statements and assessments;
• It allows corporations to conduct their own environmental reviews;
• It restricts and marginalizes public comment on environmental reviews.
