Clean Water Action released our Clean Water Scorecard for Congress last week. We tracked important environmental and health legislation and scored our elected officials on whether they voted for bills that safeguard clean water and human health. We tallied 18 votes for each Representative and 5 votes for each Senator. For a perfect 100%, a member of Congress must vote correctly on all votes for which they register a vote.
The results were disappointing, especially in the Senate. Though protecting our water and health and acting on climate change shouldn’t be partisan, that’s what they have become. It’s pretty stark -- Democratic lawmakers supported common sense bills to safeguard our water, restore our democracy, and hold the Trump administration accountable for its actions. Republican lawmakers did not. In fact, every Republican lawmaker, except for one, received a failing grade.
