House Bill 433, filed by State Rep. Ken King, would impose a new tax on all sources of electrical generation in Texas except for natural gas. This attack on renewable energy would give gas an unfair and artificial advantage over renewable energy sources. It would force electrical utilities that power homes and businesses with wind, solar to increase rates for their customers. Monthly utility bills for most Texans would go up, especially in cites that have invested in green energy like Austin and San Antonio.
Natural gas is mostly comprised of methane, one of the leading drivers of global climate change. Extracting it from deep underground, typically through fracking, requires vast amounts of water and leaves behind millions of gallons of polluted wastewater. We need to embrace a clean energy future instead increasing our dependence on polluting fuels by giving handout to the fossil fuel industry!
Please take action today and tell your state representative and senator to OPPOSE HB 433.
